WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep in Patriot League action against Bucknell on Saturday, March 30.
GAME ONE
Holy Cross 4, Bucknell 2

THE DECISION:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore right fielder Jack Toomey lifted a solo home run to right field to give the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first.
- A bases-loaded walk evened up the score for the Bison in the top of the second.
- Junior left fielder Connor Cooney walked to lead off the third, and stole second base; he came around to score on a base hit by freshman designated hitter Braden Connors to give Holy Cross a 2-1 lead.
- Bucknell responded again, tying up the game again at 2-2 with an RBI double in the top of the fourth.
- The score remained deadlocked until the sixth inning. Freshman center fielder Gianni Royer led off the frame with a single, and junior shortstop Jimmy King's one-out base hit put runners on the corners. After a throwing error, Royer scored to give Holy Cross a 3-2 edge, and King later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-2 game.
- Junior right-handed pitcher Luke LeMond spun a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to secure the Crusader victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A two-run homer gave Bucknell a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
- Holy Cross responded in the bottom half of the inning, with Baillargeon launching a triple to right field and Toomey following with a home run to center, making it a 2-2 contest.
- The score held at two runs apiece until a big sixth inning for the Crusaders. After freshman catcher Colin Brown and junior first baseman Chris Baillargeon were hit by a pitch, followed by a walk issued to Toomey, Connors launched a double to left-center to score a pair or runs. Royer was also hit by a pitch to reload the bases, and junior third baseman Brendan Jones had a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-2.
- Bucknell scored a run in the top of the seventh and another in the top of the ninth; with a Bison runner in scoring position with two outs in the ninth, Royer had a sliding catch in center field to end the game and secure the Crusader sweep.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Toomey now leads the team with four home runs on the season.
- Baillargeon has reached base in 19 consecutive games.

- The Crusaders and Bison will conclude the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 31 at Fitton Field.
