LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Holy Cross baseball team bounced back for a win in the second game of a doubleheader during its Patriot League opener at Bucknell on Sunday, March 24.
GAME ONE
Bucknell 10, Holy Cross 3

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman catcher Van Coughlin hit a one-out double in the third for Holy Cross' first hit of the day, and came around to score after a single to center from sophomore right fielder Jack Toomey.
- Freshman center fielder Gianni Royer's home run to left field gave Holy Cross a 2-0 advantage by the fourth inning.
- The Bison plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth to jump into the lead, and scored five more in the fifth for a 10-2 advantage.
- With two outs in the sixth, freshman left fielder John LaFleur had a stand-up double and came around to score after a single from Royer to tack on another run for the Crusaders.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bucknell scored a pair of runs in the second to take an early 2-0 lead.
- The Crusaders responded immediately in the third inning to knot things up. Junior third baseman Brendan Jones drew a leadoff walk and freshman catcher Colin Brown singled to put a pair of runners on before junior first baseman Chris Baillargeon singled through the left side to drive in a run. An RBI groundout then evened things up at 2-2.
- The score remained deadlocked until the top of the fifth, when Brown's sac fly scored Jones to make it a 3-2 game.
- The Crusaders tacked on four more runs in the sixth to open things up. A double steal scored the first run of the frame, and Jones drove in a run to extend the lead to 5-2. After a fielder's choice, Bailalrgeon hit another RBI single to extend the lead to 7-2.
- After right fielder Grant Voytovich reached on an error, he scored on an RBI single to bring the Bison within 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Holy Cross put up four more runs in the seventh inning. Back-to-back RBI singles from junior shortstop Jimmy King and Jones pushed the lead to 9-3, and after a walk was issued, Baillargeon's two-run single made it an 11-3 game.
- Bucknell scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Crusaders prevented any further rally.
DUE UP:
- The Crusaders travel to Navy for a doubleheader on Monday, March 25.
- First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.
