Men’s hockey falls to AIC in series deciding game three

WORCESTER, Mass. – Men's ice hockey fell to AIC, 3-1, Sunday night at the Hart Center Rink in game three of the Atlantic Hockey semifinal round. With the win, AIC advances to the Atlantic Hockey championship game next weekend.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams played to a 0-0 tie after the first period. Holy Cross held the edge in shots, 11-4, while AIC held the slight edge in blocked shots, 7-4.
  • AIC took the 1-0 lead at the 15:23 mark of the second period, before extending the lead to 2-0 four minutes later.
  • With 5:40 to play in the middle frame, senior Jack Ricketts snapped the faceoff win back to junior Liam McLinskey open in the slot. McLinskey collected the puck and sent a wrist shot right past the AIC netminder to cut the lead in half. With the goal, McLinskey tied the Atlantic Hockey record for playoff goals in a career at 13.
  • AIC iced the game with an empty net strike with 2:12 remaining in the third period.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • AIC's Nils Wallstrom made 44 saves in the win, while senior Jason Grande recorded 14 in the loss.
  • AIC held the edge in blocked shots, 20-7.
  • Holy Cross held AIC to 0-for-7 on the power play.
  • Holy Cross won 38 faceoffs compared to AIC's 31, led by Ricketts, who won a game-high 15.
