CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team was defeated 3-2 Friday evening against nonconference opponent Boston College at the Harrington Athletics Village.
The setback sends the Crusaders to 5-11 while the Eagles improve to 14-9.
Sophomore
Anna Brait extended her reached base streak to 11 games with a 1-for-3 and RBI effort. She has hit safely in the past seven games.
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Halie Pappion: W, (4-3), 5.1 innings pitched, four hits allowed, earned run, three strikeouts.
- Senior Megan Yurchick: L, (3-5), complete game six hits allowed, three earned runs, five walks, two strikeouts. Â
IN RELIEF:
- Abby Dunning: S, (3), 1.2 innings pitched, hit allowed, walk, four strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Yurchick induced an inning ending double play in the bottom of the second stranding a pair of runners.
- In the top of the third, senior Claire McCann got the Crusaders' first hit a line drive single to center field.
- The Crusaders put two runners on in the fourth via a hit by pitch and a Thibault single, but couldn't cross the plate.
- BC took the lead in the bottom of the fourth cranking a two run double into the gap to lead 2-0.
- Brait delivered in the sixth singling to center to score a run. She took second on a fielding error and another run crossed the plate to make it 3-2 Eagles.
- The Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but couldn't scratch a run across.
- Holy Cross put the tying run on first base with one out, however they were retired.
DUE UP:
- The Crusaders remain in Chestnut Hill on Saturday, March 16 against Iona
- First pitch is slated for noon.
