THE DECISION:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first. After Holy Cross loaded up the bases, junior shortstop Jimmy King had a two-run single and senior left fielder Jake McElroy followed with a three-run homer.
- Kansas State hit a three-run homer in the bottom half of the frame to cut within 5-3. After a balk in the bottom of the second, the Wildcats made it a 5-4 game.
- A sac fly by McElroy gave Holy Cross a 6-4 lead in the top of the third before a Kansas State home run knotted the score at 6-6 in the bottom half of the frame.
- A two-run homer by Toomey — his second home run of the weekend — gave the Crusaders an 8-6 lead in the fourth.
- Kansas State loaded up the bases in the fourth inning, but freshman reliever Thomas Skrobe struck out the final batter of the inning to preserve the Holy Cross lead.
- An RBI double brought the Wildcats within 8-7 in the bottom of the fifth.
- After a botched pop-up by the Kansas State defense, freshman center fielder Gianni Royer scored in the top of the sixth, pushing Holy Cross' advantage back to two runs.
- A sac fly in the seventh and a solo homer in the eighth inning by the Wildcats knotted up the score at 9-9. With a runner on and nobody out in the frame, junior first baseman Chris Baillargeon snared a line drive and turned an unassisted double play to prevent any further rally.
- The Wildcats threatened again in the bottom of the ninth, with a runner in scoring position with one out. Sophomore righty Luke LeMond drew back-to-back flyouts to Royer in center — including a diving catch at the warning track — to force extra innings.
- King led off the 10th with a single up the middle, and McElroy earned a walk to put a pair of Crusader runners on base. A groundout by Royer advanced the runners to second and third, and after a strikeout, Scanlon launched a two-out, three-run homer to right field, putting the Crusaders back ahead, 12-9. After Toomey reached on an error, Baillargeon tacked on an insurance run with an RBI double.
- In the bottom of the 10th, Kansas State put two runners on after a pair of walks, and a single to center drove in a run, making it a 13-10 game. LeMond forced a groundout to third for the final out of the frame, though, securing the Holy Cross victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Holy Cross' most recent win over a ranked opponent came during the Crusaders' season opener on Feb. 16, 2018, with a 3-2 victory over No. 24 Houston.
- After not hitting any home runs in their opening weekend, the Crusaders now have five in their weekend series against Kansas State. Their three home runs in Saturday's game are their most in a single game since hitting five vs. Lehigh on April 15, 2023.
DUE UP:
- Holy Cross will round out the weekend series at Kansas State on Sunday, Feb. 25.
- First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
