Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s hockey falls to Bentley in regular season finale

WORCESTER, Mass. – Men's ice hockey fell to Bentley, 5-1, Thursday night at the Hart Center Rink. With the loss, Holy Cross moves to 18-12-4 (13-10-3 Atlantic Hockey), while Bentley moves to 16-16-1 (12-12-1 Atlantic Hockey).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams were quiet in the opening frame, trading a power play opportunity each. The Falcons held the slight edge in shots in the period, 9-6.
  • Bentley took the 1-0 lead 42 seconds into the second period.
  • Junior Liam McLinskey picked up his 15th goal of the season on the power play 3:30 into the middle frame. Earning a three-on-two situation in the offensive zone, McLinskey sent a quick pass to freshman Jack Stockfish on the right, who sent a quick pass across to senior Matt Guerra on the left. During the passing pattern, McLinskey was able to sneak through the defense, parking himself unmarked on the post to tip in the pass across the crease by Guerra to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The tie game was short lived as Bentley scored four unanswered over the remainder of the game, netting the eventual game-winner on the power play at the 5:12 mark of the second period.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Senior Jason Grande recorded 31 saves in the loss, while Bentley's Connor Hasley finished with 30 saves in the win.
  • With his 40th point of the season tonight, McLinskey becomes just the ninth Crusader in the Division I era to hit the mark. The last player to hit the mark was James Sixsmith in 2006-2007.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will take two weeks off before hosting the Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
  • The best-of-three set is scheduled for March 8-10.
