HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Aided by five hits and five walks, the Crusaders sent 13 batters to the plate in the top of the first and took an early 7-0 lead, highlighted by a pair of hits from junior starting pitcher Sean Scanlon and a two-RBI base hit from freshman center fielder Gianni Royer
  • The Tribe got a run back in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homer from Ben Parker. After tacking on another run in the bottom of the third, William & Mary used a five-run fourth to knot the score at seven runs apiece.
  • Another five-spot, this time in the fifth inning, built a 12-7 Tribe lead.
  • The Crusaders began to chip away at the advantage in the top of the sixth, with freshman first baseman Ryan Grundy hitting an RBI triple and then scoring to make it a 12-9 game.
  • A sac fly in the seventh added another run for William & Mary for a 13-9 lead.
  • Holy Cross loaded up the bases in the top of the eighth, and drove three runs across with an RBI groundout, RBI single and sac fly to cut within 13-12.
  • However, William & Mary tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth, and pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to secure the 14-12 victory.
