DURHAM, N.H. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team traveled to New Hampshire (UNH) to conclude the season series on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders battled but fell short to the Wildcats 2-1 in regulation.
After two scoreless periods, UNH scored early in the third period for the 1-0 lead. The Wildcats furthered the lead with a power-play goal with less than 10 minutes left in the game. The Crusaders battled back to capitalize on a 5-on-4 situation with a goal by sophomore forward Alexia Moreau to cut the Wildcats lead in half at 15:00. She was assisted by sophomore forward Charlotte Sonntag and junior defenseman Carmen Elliott. UNH held the one-goal lead until time expired to take the 2-1 win over the Crusaders.
Senior goalie Madison Beck was in net for the Crusaders making a total of 29 saves in the outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team scored in the first or second period
- UNH netted a goal at 4:32 in the third period. The Wildcats netted a second goal at 12:00 on a power-play opportunity. The Crusaders scored a goal at 15:00 on the power-play by Moreau.
- UNH took home the 2-1 win.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross will return to action for the final two games of the regular season at home on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 hosting Maine. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. for game one and 4 p.m. for game two at the Hart Center Rink at Luth Athletic Complex.
