WORCESTER, Mass. — Freshman guard
Max Green totaled 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Central Connecticut 69-56 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 5-5 on the year, while the Blue Devils improve to 6-3 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made 43.1 percent of its field goal attempts and 38.1 percent of its three-pointers on the day.
• Central Connecticut connected on 51.9 percent of its shots from the floor, while forcing the Crusaders to commit 18 turnovers.
• Senior forward
Caleb Kenney finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists, while freshman guard
Tyler Boston added 13 points and five assists.
• The Blue Devils were led by Jordan Jones with 20 points and six steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Central Connecticut opened the game with a 9-2 run over the first 4:15 of play.
• Holy Cross responded with a 16-4 spurt to take a five-point lead (18-13).
• But the Blue Devils scored the next 13 points to pull back in front, and went on to take a 38-25 advantage into the locker room.
• Central Connecticut increased its lead to 18 early in the second half, and was still up by 17 (56-39) with seven minutes left to play.
• The Crusaders then scored 11 straight points to make it a six-point game (56-50) with five minutes remaining.
• But that was as close as Holy Cross would get, as the Blue Devils held on to earn the victory.
