WORCESTER, Mass. – Two members of the Holy Cross women's hockey team earned weekly awards from the Hockey East, for competition between Nov. 25 – Dec. 1. Junior forward Charlotte Sonntag was named the Hockey East Player of the Week, while junior goalie Abby Hornung was selected as the Hockey East Army ROTC Defender of the Week.
Sonntag recorded her first career hat trick against Assumption on Nov. 30 to help Holy Cross to the 6-0 win. Her hat trick was also the first of any Crusader in Hockey East era (D1) program history. At Brown on Dec. 1, she made one assist on teammate Lane Lewis's goal in the first period of the game for a total of four points on the weekend.
Hornung had a strong weekend, earning the win over Assumption and making a career-high 48 saves at Brown. Against the Greyhounds, she made nine saves. She had a 1.81 goals-against average with a .960 save percentage on the weekend. For the season, Hornung now owns a 3-5 record with a 1.80 goals-against average and .943 save percentage.
Holy Cross women's ice hockey (6-8-1, 2-6-1) returns to action on Dec. 6 when they host Boston College (11-5-0, 8-3-0) on Dec. 6. Puck drop is slated for 6 p.m. at the Hart Center Rink and the Crusaders will partake in the 508ForeverYoung and SGA Holiday Toy Drive event. Any fans who would like to donate unwrapped toys for kids ages 6-12 are welcome to bring them to the game for the 508ForeverYoung collection.
