Volleyball’s Lane moves to seventh on program’s career kill list against Bucknell

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross volleyball senior outside hitter Abbie Lane climbed the program's all-time kills list yet again during a 3-0 defeat to Patriot League foe Bucknell Friday evening in Coach George Blaney '61 Gymnasium.

Lane (824 career kills) recorded a team-high matching eight kills in the contest. She passed Katie Kerins (817, 2017-2020) for sole possession of seventh place. Lane aims to pass Katie Lynch (825, 1997-2000) on Senior Day Saturday against Lafayette.

The setback was the 21st of the season for the Crusaders and they are still looking for their first conference win. First place Bucknell has improved to 20-1 and 12-1 in conference play.

SET SCORES:
Bison 3, Crusaders 0 (12-25, 11-25, 17-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Bucknell scored the opening five points of the match as Holy Cross took an early timeout. They notched three straight points getting a senior Lauren Halverson kill to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. A 5-2 Bison stretch increased the margin to five, 12-8. Freshman Lily Torrence placed an ace to bring it down to three, 12-9. The Bison rebuilt the edge to six, 15-9 as the Crusaders used their final timeout of the set. The Bison closed the set outscoring the Crusaders 10-3.
  • The Bison rolled in the second set getting an early 8-0 lead. Sophomore Maeve Bailey got the Crusaders on the board taking a feed from junior Katie Russell in the middle making it 8-1. Bucknell built their lead to 10, 15-5 midway through the set before taking a 2-0 match lead.
  • Bailey leveled the score 1-1 in the early stages of the first set. Leading 8-5, the Bison produced six straight to move in front by nine, 14-5. Bucknell doubled up Holy Cross a few times over the next serves. At 22-11, the Crusaders began to mount a comeback notching six straight markers with Bailey recording a kill and two blocks with freshman Winn Godier making it 22-17. Bucknell called a timeout and scored the final three points of the match.
