Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Heinke nets two, Gale records 35 saves in Men’s Ice Hockey’s win over Sacred Heart

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 6-1, on Friday night at the Hart Center Rink.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 6-8-1 (5-4-1 AHA), while Sacred Heart moves to 7-6-2 (6-4-1 AHA) with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Ty Gagno got the Crusaders on the board within the first minute of game play, skating the puck through the neutral zone before unleashing a snapshot past the Pioneers' netminder for the opening score.
  • Sophomore Will Elias recorded his first collegiate goal with 3:52 left to play in the first. Picking up the rebound off a shot by freshman Owen Kim, Elias fired a shot on net as he was falling that found its way past the Sacred Heart goaltender.
  • Junior Devin Phillips scored the lone goal of the second period on the power play six minutes into the frame. Drifting in unmarked from the far faceoff dot, Phillips tipped a pass from senior Liam McLinskey over the shoulder of the Pioneers' netminder for the score.
  • Junior Timothy Heinke extended the Crusader lead to 4-0 with 13:10 to play in the third period. Picking up a turnover in front of the net, Heinke sent a rocket of a shot past the netminder, forcing Sacred Heart to turn to their backup goalie.
  • Sacred Heart got on the board with 7:54 remaining in regulation to cut the Crusader lead to 4-1.
  • McLinskey picked up a goal of his own with 5:19 remaining to regain the four-goal lead.
  • Heinke scored his second of the game twelve seconds later to give the Crusaders the 6-1 lead.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Senior Thomas Gale recorded 35 saves in the win, marking his eighth game this season with 30+ saves.
  • McLinskey extended his goal streak to six games. Dating back to Nov. 7 against AIC, McLinskey has recorded ten points on seven goals and three assists.

UP NEXT:
  • The two teams will face off again tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 30. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
