Crusaders place 12 on 2024 All-Patriot League football teams

Twelve members of the Holy Cross football team earned 2024 All-Patriot League honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Six Crusaders were named to the first team, while an additional six were selected as second team honorees. Senior linebacker Frankie Monte, sophomore running back Jayden Clerveaux, junior wide receiver Max Mosey, senior tight end Jacob Petersen, fifth-year center Christo Kelly and senior right tackle Cam McNair were selected on the first team. Senior quarterback Joe Pesansky, senior wide receiver Justin Shorter, junior right guard Cam Nolan, senior safety Curtis Harris-Lopez, senior safety Jake Jarmolowich and sophomore cornerback Cam Jones earned second team laurels.

That unit helped lead the Crusaders (6-6, 5-1 Patriot League) to a share of their sixth straight Patriot League title — extending Holy Cross' streak of the most consecutive titles in conference history. Holy Cross' 12 All-Patriot League selections were the most of any school in 2024.

Monte ranked in the top 10 nationally in total tackles (119, including 55 solo) and fumble recoveries (3). A team captain, Monte also paced the Crusader defense with 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles. He was a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and received the New England Football Writers' Gold Helmet Award in back-to-back weeks, in addition to being named NCAA.com's FCS Player of the Week after a stellar senior day showing against Bucknell. His 21 tackles against Lehigh tied for the most by a Crusader in the 2000s and were the second-most in a single game this season. Monte was a leader on a strong defense that held four of Holy Cross' six Patriot League opponents to one touchdown or less this year (just 16.5 points per game, the best mark in the conference), and the Crusaders' rush defense led the league (117.3 yards allowed per game). The selection marks the first All-Patriot League honors of his career.

Clerveaux moved into a starting role for the Crusaders early this season after the loss of All-America running back Jordan Fuller, and did not miss a beat, earning All-Patriot League first team accolades in his first full season of action. He ranked third in the Patriot League this year with 942 rushing yards, while also scoring 11 touchdowns, ranking second in the conference. In league action, he averaged 106 rushing yards per contest. Clerveaux had three 100+ yard games and four multi-touchdown games in 2024, including back-to-back two-touchdown games in wins over Bucknell and Georgetown. He was a two-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week selection this year.

Mosey had a breakthrough junior campaign for Holy Cross, earning the first All-Patriot League honors of his career. He totaled eight touchdowns on the year — six receiving, two rushing — ranking third in the league in touchdown receptions and fourth with 715 receiving yards. A versatile option for the Crusaders, he also rushed for 48 yards on 15 carries and had a 21-yard pass completion. He had three games with 100+ receiving yards, and was also named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) in a key Patriot League win over Lafayette. He averaged 19.32 yards per reception, ranking ninth in FCS.

Petersen also earned the first All-Patriot League accolades in his Holy Cross career with a first team selection. His six touchdown catches tied with Mosey as the most on the team and also ranked third in the league. In total, he had 34 receptions for 502 yards, ranking second on the team and the third-most by an FCS tight end this year. He is the first Holy Cross tight end to earn first team accolades since Alex Schneider in 2010.

Kelly, a team captain, started all 12 games at center for the Crusaders this year; McNair started every game at right tackle. Both become first-time All-Patriot League honorees. The Holy Cross offensive line conceded just 13 sacks this season — their 1.08 sacks allowed per game was the best mark in the Patriot League and 11th-best nationally, and the Crusaders only conceded nine sacks total against FCS competition. The duo helped anchor a Crusaders offense that averaged 27.6 points per contest.

Pesansky, in his first season as a full-time starter for the Crusaders, took home his first All-Patriot League accolades with his second team selection. He ranked second in the Patriot League with 19 touchdown passes while only throwing six interceptions (two of which were on Hail Mary attempts). He also ranked third in the league and in the top 25 nationally with 2,407 passing yards on the year. He completed 25 of his 28 passes in a victory over Colgate, ranking as the second-highest completion percentage (.893) in a single game in program history and the highest since 1960. His 13.75  yards per completion ranked 15th nationally.

Shorter is now a three-time All-Patriot League honoree; he previously earned accolades for special teams play, and this is the first selection at receiver of his career. He ranked third on the team with 462 receiving yards, while catching five touchdowns, with each of his scores coming in Patriot League action. He was the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and the Gold Helmet Award winner after tying the program record for single-game touchdown receptions with four against Colgate. Shorter concludes his Holy Cross career with 1,711 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

Nolan earned a spot on the second team after a breakthrough junior season. He moved into a starting role in Week 4 for the Crusaders, making nine starts at right guard through the end of 2024 and appearing in all 12 games. He was part of the solid Crusader offensive line that conceded just nine sacks in FCS action and that helped Holy Cross average 27.6 points per game.

As a team captain, Harris-Lopez was a leader for the strong Holy Cross defense, starting all 12 contests at safety. He ranked tied for third on the team with 56 total tackles, and had a team-best 9.5 tackles for a loss of 20 yards. He had five pass breakups and a pair of interceptions on the season, including a 56-yard pick six against Bucknell. He additionally earned Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week honors after returning a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown at Bryant. Harris-Lopez became a first time All-Patriot League selection.

Jarmolowich returned from an injury in 2023 to appear in all 12 games at safety in 2024. He finished the year with 46 tackles, including two for a loss, and tied for the team lead with two interceptions. Jarmolowich additionally broke up four passes and had one quarterback hurry during his senior campaign. He becomes a first-time All-Patriot League selection.

Jones started all 12 games at cornerback for the Crusaders after not appearing in any contests a season ago to earn All-Patriot League laurels for the first time. He led holy Cross with nine pass breakups and tied for the team lead with a pair of interceptions. He also tied for third on the team with 56 tackles on the season. Jones had four pass breakups in Holy Cross' win over Fordham.
