Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

11 skaters record points in men's ice hockey's win over AIC

WORCESTER, Mass. – Men's ice hockey defeated AIC, 6-2, on Saturday night at the Hart Center Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior John Gelatt got the Crusaders (9-9-4, 4-7-3 AHA) on the board first at the 11:44 mark of the first period. Picking up the rebound off a shot by sophomore Matt DeBoer, Gelatt sent a backhand chip shot over the shoulder of the AIC (12-8-1, 8-4-1 AHA) netminder.
  • AIC tied the game at 1-1 just under four minutes later on the power play.
  • With 33 seconds to go in the first frame, senior Tyler Ghirardosi regained the lead for the Crusaders, banking in his own rebound.
  • Sophomore Mack Oliphant opened the scoring in the second period with a power play goal at the 13:25 mark. Receiving a pass from Gelatt, Oliphant skated down the open lane, releasing a wrist shot at the faceoff dot that went past the AIC goaltender.
  • After AIC received a bench minor, the Crusaders went right back out on the power play, scoring 33 seconds into the man advantage. Entering the zone on a three-man rush, senior Alec Cicero dropped the puck back, finding senior Matt Guerra in stride. Guerra bumped the puck to junior Liam McLinskey, who sent a wrist shot past the AIC netminder.
  • After a flurry of penalties, AIC found themselves on the four-on-three power play, where they found the back of the net for their second goal of the night.
  • With 3:44 remaining, AIC pulled their goaltender in favor of an extra skater. Senior Lucas Thorne forced a turnover at the defensive blue line, finding Ghirardosi who sent a pass across to sophomore Joe Solimine. Solimine hesitating, getting the AIC defender to drop for the blocked shot, allowing him to send the shot into the empty net.
  • 40 seconds later, Thorne forced a turnover in the neutral zone, finding Solimine on the rush, where he grabbed the puck and sent a wrist shot past the AIC netminder for the final goal of the game.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Sophomore Jack Seymour extended his point streak to three games.
  • Junior John Gelatt finished the series with five points (2g-3a). The two games were his first multi-point games of his career.
  • Junior Thomas Gale recorded 25 saves in the win, while AIC's tandem of Alexandros Aslanidis and Cole Hudson combined for 22 in the loss.
