PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team hit the road to face off with Providence for game two of the series. Freshman forward Lulu Rourke had a standout game netting both Crusader goals but the Friars came out with the 5-2 win.
The Friars (10-14-1, 9-8-1 Hockey East) took a one goal lead late in the first period. Rourke equalized the score for the Crusaders (5-16-2, 2-13-2 Hockey East) to net her first career goal with 33 seconds left in the period. A productive second period ended with Providence leading 4-1. The Crusaders battled back in the third with Rourke netting her second goal of the day on a breakaway but the Friars managed to score an empty net goal for a 5-2 win.
Sophomore goalie Brooke Loranger was between the pipes for Holy Cross making 35 saves in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Providence netted a goal at 15:16 in the first period
- Holy Cross answered back with an equalizing goal by Rourke who stole the puck away from a Friar to send in a quick snap shot past the goalie at 19:27.
- The Friars reclaimed the lead in the second period with three goals at 9:39 on the power-play, 14:51 and 19:07
- Rourke cut Providence's lead in half with a goal at 2:59 in the third period.
- The Friars scored on an empty net at 18:49 for the 5-2 result.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Rourke scored her first two collegiate goals both unassisted
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross will travel to Boston University for game one of two on Friday, Jan. 26 at 6 pm. in Boston, Mass. at Walter Brown Arena.
