FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Men's ice hockey fell to Sacred Heart, 2-1 in overtime, Friday night at Martire Family Arena. With the win, Sacred Heart improves to 11-11-2 (11-6-1 Atlantic Hockey), while the Crusaders move to 11-11-4 (6-9-3 Atlantic Hockey).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Neither team was able to score in the first period, with the shots on goal standing at an even 9-9 mark.
• The Crusaders were able to kill off nine minutes of penalty time, including a five-minute major opportunity that Sacred Heart was awarded.
• Sacred Heart scored the opening goal of the game at the 14:04 mark of the second period.
• Junior Liam McLinskey picked up his Atlantic Hockey-leading 25^th point of the season with the game-tying goal at the 8:27 mark of the middle frame. Stripping a Sacred Heart defender of the puck along the boards, McLinskey grabbed the puck out of midair, making a quick move past the last defender. McLinskey then pulled the puck across the goal and flipped it over the outstretched leg of the Pioneers goaltender.
• The Pioneers won the game with 2:19 remaining in overtime.

 
BEYOND THE BOX:

• Junior Thomas Gale finished the night with 29 saves, while Sacred Heart's Justin Robbins stopped 27 shots.
• In their return to the lineup, freshmen Jack Stockfish and Ty Gagno combined for 23 of the Crusaders' 34 faceoff wins.

• The two teams will face off again tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
