WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward
Caleb Kenney totaled 15 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Lafayette 72-68 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 4-14 overall and 1-4 in the Patriot League, while the Leopards improve to 6-12 on the season and 5-0 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross started the game hot, jumping out to an early 13-6 lead after the first seven minutes of action.
• Lafayette responded with a 9-2 spurt to tie up the game at 15-15, and the score was later tied at 29-29 with 3:49 left before the break.
• The Leopards then closed out the half with an 8-2 run to take a six-point lead into the locker room (37-31).
• Lafayette was able to extend its advantage to 11 points (48-37) early in the second half, before the Crusaders went on a 17-6 run to tie up the game at 54-54 with 11 minutes left to play.
• The score was later tied at 68-68 with less than a minute remaining, when Ryan Pettit hit a three-pointer to give the Leopards the lead for good.
• Holy Cross would not score again, and Lafayette pulled out a four-point victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The Crusaders made 45.5 percent of their field goal attempts, 35.0 percent of their three-pointers and 100.0 percent of their free throws on the night.
• The Leopards were able to connect on 45.0 percent of their shot from the floor, 36.0 percent of their attempts from three-point range and 69.2 percent of their foul shots.
• Senior guard
Joe Octave finished the game with 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals, while senior guard
Bo Montgomery added 12 points, three assists and two steals.
• Lafayette was led by Mark Butler with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists.
