STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Holy Cross field hockey team defeated Wagner College, 2-1, on Saturday morning at the Field Hockey Complex.
Sophomore
Julia Carrozza opened the scoring for the Crusaders 2:37 into the first quarter, taking the rebound off a shot by senior
Katie Guden and finding the back of the net. Freshman
Maguire Sturgis extended the lead for Holy Cross to 2-0 15 seconds into the second quarter when she tipped a ball hit across the circle by senior
Allie McDonough past the Wagner goalkeeper.
Wagner's Laura Van Hamburg cut the Crusaders' lead to 2-1 in the third quarter, but that would prove to be the extent of the offense for the Seahawks.
Senior
Brooke Ross finished the morning in goal with 12 saves and the win, while Wagner's Sam Black and Puck Schenk combined for four saves in the loss.
The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, September 10 when they face Long Island at 11 a.m. at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y.
