LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell short in double overtime against Bucknell, 3-2 in double overtime, on Saturday afternoon at the Graham Field.
The Bison (5-5, 1-1 PL) got out to an early lead, striking in the first quarter on a shot off of a rebound. The Bison extended their lead to 2-0 in the third quarter on a goal off of a corner opportunity.
Sophomore
Izzy van der Spuy cut the Bucknell lead in half with her first collegiate goal with five minutes remaining in the contest, burying a rebound on a corner opportunity. Junior
Meggan Fourie tied the game with 42 seconds remaining to send the contest to overtime.
The two teams played even in the first overtime period. with Bucknell holding a 3-1 edge in corners and a 6-1 advantage in shots. In the second overtime, the Bison drew a corner 2:01 into the second extra frame which they were able to convert on for the win.
Senior
Brooke Ross recorded five saves in the loss, while Bucknell's Sarah Althouse recorded three in the win.
The Crusaders will return home on Tuesday, Sept. 26 for their Cousy Cup matchup against Bryant University at 6 p.m.
