WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Boston University, 4-0, Monday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.
The Terriers (3-3, 1-0 PL) struck first on a corner 19 seconds into the first quarter. Boston University extended their lead to 2-0 2:09 into the second quarter on a set play down the sideline. Through the first half of play, the Terriers outshot the Crusaders (2-4, 0-1 PL) 9-0, with a 7-0 advantage on corners.
The Crusaders found their footing in the second half, picking up five shots and four corners, but were unable to convert on the opportunities. Boston U. extended their lead to 3-0 in the third quarter on a penalty stroke goal, before picking up their fourth goal of the afternoon on a shot off a rebound.
Boston U.'s Kate Thomason earned the win in the shutout, stopping both shots she faced. Senior
Brooke Ross recorded eight saves in the loss.
With the win, Boston University takes a 1-0 lead in the Turnpike Trophy standings.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, September 23 when they travel to Lewisburg, Penn. to face Bucknell University at 1 p.m. The matchup will stream live on ESPN+
