WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Northeastern University, 8-2, Friday night at the Dedham Field in Dedham, Mass.
The Huskies (2-1) struck first on a corner in the first quarter. Freshman
Maguire Sturgis tied the game at 1-1 halfway through the second quarter, tipping a shot by sophomore
Julia Carrozza on a corner play. The goal was the first of the season for Sturgis, and the first of her career.
Northeastern found their footing in the second half, scoring six second half goals. Senior
Sarah Potter picked up her first goal of the season after collecting a rebound by Sturgis and batting it past the Huskies goalie. Sturgis was credited with the assist.
Northeastern's Kristina Merashoff earned the win on the evening, allowing two goals and making four saves in 52:25 minutes of work. Senior
Brooke Ross recorded a career-high 11 saves in the loss.
The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, September 3 when they travel to Providence, R.I. to face Brown University at 12 p.m., and will stream live on ESPN+
