BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Holy Cross baseball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader against Lehigh on Sunday, May 7, in the teams' regular-season finale.
GAME ONE
Lehigh 5, Holy Cross 4 (nine innings)

THE DECISION:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lehigh took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a passed ball.
- Sophomore center fielder Connor Cooney hit a solo homer to even up the score in the third.
- An RBI double by sophomore second baseman Connor Peek gave Holy Cross the lead in the fourth, and a fielding error in the fifth scored two more runs to give the Crusaders a 4-1 advantage.
- Lehigh cut within 4-3 after an error and RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. The Mountain Hawks then evened the score at 4-4 after a single in the sixth.
- The deadlock forced extra innings, and Lehigh eventually secured the walkoff win with an RBI single by Jake Whitlinger in the bottom of the ninth.
GAME TWO
Lehigh 3, Holy Cross 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Gerard Sweeney opened the scoring for the Mountain Hawks with a solo homer in the bottom of the first.
- That 1-0 lead held until the top of the fifth, when an RBI groundout scored sophomore shortstop Jimmy King to even the score.
- Lehigh responded quickly, with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. The Mountain Hawks secured an insurance run in that frame with an RBI single.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Freshman right fielder Jack Toomey hit his 19th double of the season, ranking him solely in third place in single-season program history.
- Cooney's home run was his first of the year.
