WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward
Gerrale Gates, a member of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, has been selected as the 2022-2023 recipient of the Richard J. Maloney Award. Since 1981, the Maloney Award has been presented annually by the Holy Cross Varsity Club to the men's basketball player who best exemplifies Mr. Maloney's spirit and energy as a loyal contributor to the program. Gates, who also earned this honor last year, joins Rob Feaster (1994, 1995) as the only two-time recipients of the award.
During the 2022-2023 campaign, Gates earned All-Patriot League honors for the third straight season. He averaged 16.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocked shots per game, to rank first in the conference in rebounding, second in scoring, fourth in blocks, fifth in steals and ninth in assists. Gates led the team in scoring 14 times and in rebounding 22 times this season, while scoring in double-digits 30 times and posting 13 double-doubles.
During his career with the Crusaders, he totaled 1,184 points, 619 rebounds, 172 assists, 86 steals and 60 blocks.
