WORCESTER, Mass. – Seniors Bianca McIver and Maggie O'Leary of the Holy Cross women's rowing team have been named co-winners of the 2022-23 Honorable John P. Cooney Memorial Award. 

Presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club in memory of Judge John P. Cooney (Class of 1923), the Cooney Award goes to a senior letterwinner who performed beyond all expectations with courage, loyalty and dedication.

Both McIver and O'Leary have maintained high standards in the classroom, with both earning Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List honors. Athletically, O'Leary has been an integral leader as a prominent second varsity eight coxswain, while McIver has competed in the second seat of the Crusaders' first varsity eight.

In addition to participating in numerous on-campus activities and holding several prominent internships, McIver and O'Leary worked together to manage and direct a fundraiser acknowledging their late teammate's accomplishments, with proceeds going toward the Grace Rett Athletic Complex and Education Center. The "Love-the-Fight-A-Thon" has raised over $1 million since December 2020.
