WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior
Ben Talbot of the Holy Cross baseball team has been selected as the 2022-23 winner of the Daniel Allen Sportsmanship Award.
Presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Allen Award goes to the player whose unselfish teamwork and dedication to the good of the team reflect the values lived by Coach Allen. The winning student-athlete need not be a star or even a starter, but a solid performer with an outstanding attitude whose contributions are not frequently recognized. The award is designed to recognize a student-athlete who is dedicated to the good of the team, possesses integrity, and is a great teammate.
Talbot serves on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee e-board as the Director of Marketing, while also serving as the department's Patriot League SAAC Representative. Talbot works as a Relationship Peer Educator (RPE) on campus, working closely with the Office of Title IX by offering students support with knowledge of campus and community resources for sexual violence prevention. He helps facilitate weekly discussions through programming as well as developing and presenting bystander trainings.
An unselfish teammate, Talbot enjoyed a breakthrough senior season, developing into one of the Crusaders' most trusted arms out of the bullpen. In 2023, he posted career bests in appearances (19), innings pitched (30.2) and strikeouts (35).
Talbot, a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection and 2023 Academic All-Patriot League honoree, will graduate Holy Cross with a degree in physics.
He is just the third member of the baseball program to earn the Allen Award, joining Keith Simard '06 and George Perotta '13 in receiving the honor.
