EASTON, Pa. – The Holy Cross softball team four game winning streak came to an end on Monday following a 3-2 loss to Patriot League opponent Lafayette at the Lafayette Softball Field.
The defeat sends the Crusaders to 13-28, 2-10 PL while the Leopards move to 6-29-1, 2-10 PL with the victory.
Senior
Kari Jacobson expanded her hitting streak to five games as she went 1-for-3 in the contest. Her streak is currently the longest on the team. Junior
Jessica Mott tallied her first three hit effort of the campaign going 3-for-4 at the dish. Mott is second on the squad in multiple hit efforts (10).

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Morrigan Gardiner: W, (1-7), complete game, nine hits allowed, two runs – one earned, two walks, six strikeouts.
- Freshman Sophia Roncone: L, (5-13), complete game, seven hits allowed, three earned runs, three walks, eight strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Harlie Bickett: 2-for-3, triple, run scored.
- Megan Coyle: 2-for-3, double, home run, RBI, run scored.
- Grace Harvey: 2-for-3, two doubles, RBI.
- Junior Jessica Mott: 3-for-4.
- Freshman Anna Brait: 2-for-4, RBI.
- Senior Kari Jacobson: 1-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross notched the first run of the game in the top of the second due to a fielding miscue for the 1-0 Crusader lead.
- A two out walk and RBI double for Lafayette tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
- In the third, a leadoff triple and infield single moved the Leopards ahead 2-1. The bases were loaded with one out and Roncone punched out the final two batters of the frame.
- A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth increased the Leopard lead to 3-1.
- Sophomore Emma Fong started a seventh inning rally with a walk to lead off the inning. A batter later, Mott notched her third single of the contest putting runners at first and third with one down. With two outs, Brait singled up the middle to plate Fong and make it 3-2. Gardiner struck out the next batter to clinch the victory.Â
DUE UP:
- Holy Cross starts a stretch of 12 consecutive home games beginning on Wednesday, April 19 with nonconference foe Rhode Island.
- First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
