WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team picked up a 4-3 win in game one before game two ended due to darkness which resulted in a 2-2 six inning tie Wednesday evening at Freshman Field.

The results move the Crusaders record to 14-28-1, while the Rams move to 16-24-1.

Junior Jessica Mott was 2-for-2 in game one reaching in all four of her plate appearances. She doubled for the 11th time this season which gives her 25 for her career and that ranks tied for eighth on the program's all-time list.
 
GAME ONE: CRUSADERS 4, RAMS 3 (FINAL):
 
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:

• Freshman Sophia Roncone: W, (6-13), complete game, four hits allowed, three earned runs, six walks, six strikeouts.
• Liz Lynchard: L, (7-9), complete game, eight hits allowed, four earned runs, five walks, five strikeouts.

STEPPING TO THE PLATE:

• Junior Jessica Mott: 2-for-2, double, RBI, two walks.
• Freshman Anna Brait: 2-for-4.
• Senior Olivia Eckelman: 1-for-2, walk, two runs scored.
• Junior Morgan Jensen: 1-for-2, double, run scored, walk.
• Senior Bailey Bates: 1-for-2, RBI, run scored.
• Freshman Jenna Alesandrelli: 1-for-1, pinch hit two-RBI single.
• Kylie Bulinski: 2-for-3, two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Holy Cross scored two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead 2-0. Bates grounded out to second to bring in the first run and with two outs, Mott stroked the first pitch she saw into left field for the RBI single.
• In the top of the fourth Rhode Island put two runners on with one out. Roncone tight roped out of danger inducing a fly out and a ground out to second.
• A lead off free pass and a sacrifice put a runner at second with one down in the sixth. Roncone did not allow anymore advancement on the base paths.
• With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Alesandrelli pinch hit and flared a two-RBI single into left center to plate two runs.
• URI rallied in the top of the seventh. There were two outs when Rachel Zingerman delivered an RBI single to drop the deficit to 4-1. Bulinski followed singling to right which brought home two runs to make it 4-3. A fielding error prolonged the inning, but Roncone got a groundout to end the contest.

 
GAME TWO: CRUSADERS 2, RAMS 2 (FINAL – 6 INN):
 
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:

• Junior Megan Yurchick ND, 6.0 innings pitched, six hits allowed, two runs – one earned, one walk, four strikeouts.
• Katie Zaun: ND, 6.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, two earned runs, five walks, nine strikeouts.

STEPPING TO THE PLATE:

• Senior Kari Jacobson: 2-for-3.
• Anna Brait: 1-for-1, two walks, run scored.
• Morgan Jensen: 1-for-3, two RBI.
• Rachel Zingerman: 3-for-3, two doubles, triple.
• Jessica Hennelly: 3-for-3, run scored, RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Zingerman tripled in the top of the second. Yurchick then flipped a nubber to the plate where Jensen tagged Zingerman out for the first out of the inning. The Rams eventually got on the board when an opposite field single drove in a run to make it 1-0.
• A fielding error in the fifth tacked on an important insurance run for the Rams.
• Holy Cross rallied in the sixth. Down to their last out, junior Claire McCann pinch hit and drew a full count walk to load the bases. Jensen followed by dropping in an opposite field floater to right on a full count to tie the game and move the winning run to third. The last batter went down by way of the strikeout and the game was called due to darkness.

 
DUE UP:

• The Crusaders continue their homestand on Thursday, April 20 against nonconference foe Siena.
• First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
