EASTON, Pa. – Junior
Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a game-best 22 points as the Holy Cross women's basketball team picked up a 67-49 win on the road at Patriot League opponent Lafayette Wednesday evening at the Kirby Sports Center.
Two other student-athletes reached double figures for the Crusaders (18-5, 10-2 PL). Junior
Cara McCormack chipped in 13 markers, three dimes and two steals while teammate, sophomore
Lindsay Berger was one rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Power-Cassidy stuffed the stat sheet with four rebounds, a career-high matching four assists and two steals shooting 64.3% (9-of-14) from the floor.
Makayla Andrews was the leading scorer for the Leopards (8-14, 5-7 PL) with 22 markers on 58.8% (10-of-17) shooting.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Power-Cassidy opened the scoring by canning a corner three for the early 3-0 Crusader lead. Lafayette tallied three offensive rebounds over the opening few possessions and came within one, 5-4 via a Kay Donahue jumper. Holy Cross responded with seven straight markers getting a Berger layup, a Power-Cassidy triple, and a freshman Kaitlyn Flanagan steal to fast break score for the 12-4 edge at the media stoppage. Power-Cassidy notched her eighth point in the quarter as the guests doubled up the hosts 16-8. Five in a row by Lafayette made it a 16-13 game, but McCormack drove through the lane as time expired to push the Crusader lead to 18-13.
- The Leopards dropped the margin to 18-16 and the Crusaders responded with a 9-2 burst to hold a nine point lead, 27-18 with 4:40 left before halftime. Power-Cassidy knocked down her fourth three of the first half giving her 16 points over the first 20 minutes as Holy Cross led 32-23.
- A Flanagan corner three to begin the third quarter established a 12 point lead, 35-23 for Holy Cross. Back-to-back buckets by Andrews dropped the score to 38-31. The Crusaders produced four straight markers to reestablish the double digit edge at 42-31. Holy Cross led by 10, 44-34 after three stanzas.
- Senior Addisyn Cross found McCormack on the left wing for a three to improve the advantage to 13, 50-37 with 7:44 left. Two freshman Meg Cahalan free throw conversions gave the guests their largest lead of the contest, 67-46.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Power-Cassidy (16) scored half of the Crusaders points (32) in the first half.
- Power-Cassidy has scored 18 or more points in four straight games.
- McCormack was 3-for-3 (100%) from three-point range in the fourth quarter producing nine of her 13 markers in the period.
- Holy Cross had 19 assists on 27 field goal conversions.
- Four players had three or more assists for the Crusaders.
- The Crusaders have allowed under 50 points by an opponent in six conference contests.
