Women’s basketball to face Lafayette Wednesday night

The Holy Cross women's basketball team travels to Patriot League foe Lafayette on Wednesday, February 8 for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Leopards. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (17-5, 9-2 PL): 
  • Holy Cross picked up a 71-52 victory at Navy on Saturday afternoon to stop their two game losing streak. Junior Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a game-high 20 points while freshman Simone Foreman added 16 markers in 19 minutes off the bench.
  • Bronagh Power-Cassidy was named Patriot League Honorable Mention for her efforts at Navy. Power-Cassidy shot 50% (7-of-14) from the floor, 4-for-4 (100%) at the free throw line, came down with three rebounds and dished out two assists to go with one steal in the winning effort. Nine of her 20 points came in the second quarter.
  • Over the last three games, Power-Cassidy has averaged 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals shooting 53.5% (23-of-43) from the hardwood.
  • Simone Foreman was also selected as Patriot League Honorable Mention. She produced 16 points and a career-high matching seven rebounds in the 71-52 win at Navy on Saturday afternoon. Foreman shot 50% (4-of-8) from the field and set personal bests in free throw conversions (8) and free throw attempts (10) for 80% conversion percentage. Foreman dished out an assist, blocked a shot and came away with a steal.
  • Since returning to the starting lineup on Jan. 18, sophomore Lindsay Berger ranks second on the team in scoring (12.8) and first in rebounds (9.0) across five contests.
  • Holy Cross is going for the series sweep over Lafayette for the third straight season.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS (8-13, 5-6 PL): 
  • The Leopards have won four of their last five games, but suffered a 79-48 loss to rival Lehigh on Saturday. Halee Smith scored a team-best 18 points with five boards and two assists while teammate Abby Antognoli chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
  • Antognoli rarely leaves the court as she paces the Patriot League in minutes per game (36.1) which ranks 33rd in all of NCAA Division I. Antognoli is second on the Leopards in scoring averaging 11.8 points per game.
  • This season, Lafayette is more successful at home (6-3) than on the road (2-10).
  • As a team, the Leopards rank second in the conference in steals per game (6.8) trailing only American (8.3).
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 64-12 (.842) in the series history against Lafayette dating back to 1986.
  • The Crusaders have won the last seven meetings including a 66-50 decision back on Jan. 14. Five Crusaders scored eight or more points in the victory.
  • The Crusaders are 32-8 (.800) against the Leopards on the road.
