Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's hockey falls to New Hampshire

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to New Hampshire, 7-4, in on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders move to 6-22-1, (5-18-0 Hockey East) while the Wildcats improve to 11-19-0 and 9-14-0 in conference standings. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The scoring started quickly in the first period and did not slow throughout the game. New Hampshire found the first goal five minutes into the game. 
  • The Crusaders answered quickly to tie the score. Senior Mary Edmonds fired a shot towards the net that ricocheted off the skate of junior Millie Sirum and through the UNH goalie, Nicky Harnett.
  • Senior Kailey Langefels drew a five-minute major at 12:45 in the first, giving the Wildcats the extra skater advantage. 
  • New Hampshire managed two goals on the power play. They regained the lead at 14:13 in the first, then extended it 33 seconds later.
  • The Wildcats found one more goal before the end of the first at 16:04, taking a 4-1 lead. 
  • Holy Cross found momentum at the end of the first when Sirum stole a pass and scored, unassisted on a breakaway at 16:56.
  • The Crusaders found the last goal of the first period at 18:05 when freshman Alexia Moreau cashed in off a rebound.
  • Holy Cross made a goalie change to begin the second period, putting freshman Brooke Loranger in for junior Madison Beck
  • Edmonds scored the only goal of the second period at 14:54 to tie the game, 4-4.
  • New Hampshire tallied the game-winning goal at 0:31 in the third period.
  • New Hampshire's Kira Juodikis managed a hat-trick at 11:57 in the third, followed by an empty-net goal at 18:28 to give the Wildcats a 7-4 victory. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Sirum ties her single-game career high with two goals and one assist. She owns 11 points on the year from four goals and seven assists.
  • Edmonds adds to her career-high season total 16 points, leading the team. Additionally, she leads the Crusaders in goals with 10. 
  • Moreau owns the second-highest goal total with eight. She leads the freshmen class in points with nine.
  • Smithson recorded two assists on the night, adding to her season total (11). She holds the second-highest point total with 14. 
UP NEXT: 
  • Holy Cross goes back on the road for two games on Feb. 10 and 11. On Friday, the Crusaders will face Providence for the third and final meeting between the two programs. Puck drop is slated for 2 p.m. 
  • On Saturday, Holy Cross will travel to Storrs, Conn. for a 3 p.m. matchup with Connecticut. These programs will meet for the first time this season.
