WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team was defeated by Canisius, 6-3, in Atlantic Hockey Association action Saturday night at the Hart Center Rink.
 
Holy Cross finishes the regular season at 13-18-3 (12-12-2 AHA), while the Golden Griffins finish at 15-16-3 (13-10-3 AHA).

THE GOALTENDERS:

• Crusaders: sophomore Thomas Gale – 3-11-2, 19 saves, .826 save percentage.
• Golden Griffins: John Hawthorne – 12-12-1, 26 saves, .897 save percentage.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Crusaders got out to a 2-0 lead to open the game. Senior Nick Hale got Holy Cross on the board at the end of the first period on a strike assisted by junior Jack Ricketts and freshman Mack Oliphant.
• Sophomore Matt Shatsky picked up his first collegiate goal at the 5:28 mark of the second period to bring the lead to 2-0. The power play goal was assisted by junior Lucas Thorne and Ricketts.
• Canisius then picked up two goals in 30 seconds to tie the game at 2-2.
• Junior Jake Higgins regained the lead for the Crusaders just over four minutes into the third period, with the assists going to junior Alec Cicero and Shatsky.
• Canisius rattled off four unanswered goals over the next 15 minutes to secure the win.

  
UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will travel to AIC on Friday, March 3, for the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Hockey Association playoffs.
• Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.
