Casey Borgiel named Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team

WORCESTER, Mass. Freshman defenseman Casey Borgiel has been named to the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie team, as announced by the league Wednesday. The Port Huron, Michigan native is the second freshman to earn an all-conference recognition from Hockey East in program history.

Borgiel has been a standout on defense in her rookie season, appearing in all 33 contests for the Crusaders. She posted 29 blocked shots during the regular season, the most of any rookie and fifth highest on the team.

She tallied her first collegiate point on an assist during a 2-1 win over then-No. 14 Vermont on Oct. 8. Her first multiple-point performance came in Lake Placid against Syracuse, as Borgiel recorded two assists against the Orange.

Borgiel posted her first career goal against then-No. 7/8 Northeastern to bring Holy Cross within one point of the Huskies. She went on to record three more points, including an early goal at Frozen Fenway to start the scoring against Boston University. She finished the regular season with seven points from two goals and five assists.

"We are really proud of Casey for making the All-Rookie team," said head coach Katie Lachapelle. "She has had a great start to her career here. She plays in big moments, our power play and penalty kill – the big parts of our game. We couldn't be prouder of her."
