ANNAPOLIS, M.D. – The Holy Cross volleyball program was downed 3-0 by Patriot League opponent Navy on Saturday afternoon in the Brown Field House.

The defeat was the 20th of the season for the Crusaders and 14th in league play and the Mids climb to 15-8, 7-7 PL.

SET SCORES:

• Midshipmen 3, Crusaders 0 (14-25, 15-25, 13-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Holy Cross jumped ahead 6-2 in the early stages with senior Halle Carter using an ace and a kill forcing Navy into a timeout. Navy went on a 15-2 run to take a commanding 17-8 lead. A Rian Millership kill and a bad set made it 17-10 Mids. Navy concluded the set doubling up the Crusaders 8-4.
• Navy started off hot in the second set building an 8-0 lead. Sophomore Rachel Johnson halted the scoring stretch getting a kill for the Crusaders first point. The Mids eventually led 21-8 before senior Sanaea Simmons had a hand in four of the next five Crusader points, notching two solo blocks, a block assist and a kill to make it 21-13. Navy won the set 25-15 for the 2-0 match advantage.
• In the third set, the junior Lauren Halverson and Simmons combined for a block and a 3-2 Crusader lead. An 8-1 Mids scoring binge increased the margin to 10-4. Navy again doubled up Holy Cross 16-8 before winning the set.

INSIDE THE BOX:

• Simmons recorded five total blocks, her second largest total of the season and it marked the seventh time this season she had four or more blocks.
• Freshman Lily Eigner established a new personal-best with five kills and four digs hitting .625 in the contest.

UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross concludes their campaign with a Senior Day contest on Saturday, Nov. 11 against Loyola (Md.).
• First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
