JAMAICA, N.Y. – St. John's forward Joel Soriano posted 16 points and six rebounds to lead the Red Storm to a 91-45 victory over the Holy Cross men's basketball team at Carnesecca Arena. The Crusaders fall to 2-5 overall, while St. John's improves to 4-2 on the year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross hit just 36.2 percent of its field goal attempts and 33.3 percent of its three-pointers on the night, while committing 20 turnovers.
• St. John's connected on 50.6 percent of its shots from the floor and held a 48-23 rebounding advantage.
• The Red Storm also scored 27 points off turnovers and 26 fast break points.
• Junior forward
Caleb Kenney scored a team-high eight points, with senior guard
Joe Octave adding seven points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Crusaders started the game hot, hitting seven of their first nine shots while jumping out to an 18-10 lead after the first 7:44 of action.
• The Red Storm responded with an 18-2 spurt to pull in front by eight (28-20) with six minutes left before the break.
• St. John's added runs of 8-0 and 5-0 later in the half, and took a 44-28 advantage into the locker room.
• The Red Storm then started the second half with a 21-4 spurt to put the game away.
