WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior guard
Joe Octave scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 68-67 victory over Georgetown at Capital One Arena. Octave hit 12 of 21 shots from the field, in addition to grabbing 11 rebounds and handing out two assists. The Crusaders improve to 1-1 overall, while the Hoyas fall to 1-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Georgetown held a 37-32 advantage at halftime, and was able to increase its lead to 11 (57-46) with 8:36 left to play.
• Holy Cross then went on an 11-0 run over the next four and a half minutes to tie the game at 57-57, with Octave scoring 10 of those points.
• The Hoyas pulled back in front by four (67-63) with two minutes remaining. before senior guard
Bo Montgomery knocked down both ends of a one-and-one with 1:37 left to make it a two-point game (67-65).
• After getting a stop on the defensive end, Octave drained a three-pointer with 56 seconds to go to give the Crusaders the lead.
• Holy Cross then held Georgetown without a point on its last two possessions to pull out the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Octave's 33 points were the most by a Crusader since Malachi Alexander scored 38 at Sacred Heart on Dec. 21, 2016.
• Holy Cross made 46.3 percent on its field goal attempts and 81.3 percent of its free throws on the night, while holding a 41-31 rebounding advantage.
• The Hoyas connected on just 36.1 percent of their shots from the floor and 63.2 percent of their free throws.
• Montgomery finished the game with 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
• Jayden Epps led Georgetown with 22 points.
• Octave's double-double was the first of his Holy Cross career.
MAKING HISTORY:
• The Crusaders snapped a six-game losing streak against the Hoyas, defeating Georgetown for the first time since Jan. 25, 1975.
• Holy Cross also downed a Big East Conference foe for the first time since a 78-73 victory over then-Big East member Notre Dame in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament on March 15, 2005.
