WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team defeated Lindenwood, 4-2, in non-conference action Friday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.
Senior
Allie McDonough got the Crusaders (8-8) on the board with just 5:52 into the opening quarter. Junior
Grace Donahue took a shot just outside the circle, finding McDonough's stick just in front of the goalkeeper for the opening score.
Lindenwood's (3-10) Alice Van Hemelen tied the game up just under five minutes later, though the tie would not last long. Six minutes into the second quarter, senior
Sarah Potter picked up her team-leading ninth goal of the season, tapping in a cross ball by freshman
Maguire Sturgis.
McDonough picked up her second goal of the game 5:30 into the second half, one-timing a pass across the cage by Potter into the corner of the goal to extend the Crusader lead to 3-1. Lindenwood's Izzy Folan capitalized on a penalty stroke opportunity just over a minute later to cut the lead to 3-2.
With 5:32 remaining in the contest, sophomore
Julia Carrozza sent the ball into the circle, finding junior
Meggan Fourie who laid out to tip the ball into the corner of the goal, bringing the score to 4-2.
Senior
Brooke Ross made two saves in the win, while Lindenwood's contingent of Leah Brozovich and Kyla Cooke combined for 11.
The Crusaders will return to the Hart Turf for their final game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. against Fairfield. Prior to the game, the program will recognize their seven seniors for their dedication over the last four years.
