WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Fairfield, 2-1, on senior day Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

Fairfield (14-3) got on the board first, striking at the 10:03 mark of the first quarter. The Stag's lead would not last long, as the Crusaders (8-9) responded just 3:26 later with a goal by sophomore
Kendall Blomquist, the first of her career.

Blomquist made a pass to freshman
Marissa MacLean across the circle, who drew the goalkeeper to her before sending the ball across the cage, looking for a tip-in. Senior
Allie McDonough ramped the ball over the goalkeeper's outstretched leg, before Blomquist sent a one-time sweep into the corner of the goal.

Fairfield regained the lead in the third quarter on a penalty corner goal, bringing the score to 2-1. Senior
Brooke Ross denied a penalty stroke opportunity by Fairfield with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, keeping the Crusaders within one with time to play.

Senior
Haley Davis extended her national lead in defensive saves, recording two in the contest, while helping the defense go an almost perfect 10-for-11 on penalty corner defense.

Ross made 11 saves in her final game for the Crusaders, while Fairfield's Payton Rahn recorded nine in the win.

Prior to the game, the Crusaders recognized their seven seniors for their dedication over the last four years:
Sarah Potter,
Katie Guden,
Allie McDonough,
Kylie Hampton,
Meaghan Noone,
Haley Davis, and
Brooke Ross.

Holy Cross field hockey will return to the field in the fall of 2024.
