HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Rachel Johnson produced a game-best 16 kills, however the Holy Cross volleyball team was downed 3-0 by Patriot League opponent Colgate 3-0 Sunday afternoon on Cotterell Court.

Colgate moves to 13-4 and 6-0 in conference play while Holy Cross slips to 3-12, 0-6 in league action.

Johnson matched a career-high with her 16 kills. She also hit .325 in the match with five digs. Junior Lauren Halverson added six kills and a .462 hitting percentage in the setback.

SET SCORES:

• Raiders 3, Crusaders 0 (18-25, 13-25, 22-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• A Senior Sanaea Simmons kill coupled with a bad set tied the opening set 2-2. A 5-1 Colgate burst opened up a 7-3 lead. Colgate upped their edge to 10-4 as the Crusaders took a timeout. Simmons and Johnson skied up for a block to drop the deficit to three, 11-8. Ahead by three, another Colgate run opened up a 17-10 margin. The Raiders won the set 25-18.
• Halverson smacked a kill to make it 5-3 in favor of the hosts. Colgate recorded a block to double up the margin at 10-5. Junior Abbie Lane kept the Crusaders down four, 11-7. A 5-1 Raider run expanded their lead to 16-8. Another Colgate outburst wrapped up the set 25-13.
• Simmons rolled to the right pin and converted an attack attempt to keep the Crusaders down one, 5-4. Freshman Emma Halstead and Johnson gave Holy Cross their first lead of the third set at 9-7. Colgate responded with five straight markers to jump back in the lead at 12-9. Back-to-back Halverson kills pulled Holy Cross within two, 16-14. Late in the set, Holy Cross came within one, 23-22. Colgate closed out the set for the 3-0 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX:

• Johnson has recorded double-digit kills in 11 of 15 matches this season.
• Johnson's .325 hitting percentage was a season-best.
• Gill tallied a game-best 13 digs.
