Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's hockey bested by No. 7 Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was shut out by No. 7 Northeastern, 4-0, on Friday night. The Crusaders move to 5-21-1, (4-17-0 Hockey East) while the Huskies improve to 24-2-1 overall and 20-2-1 in conference standings. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • At 1:35 in the first period, Northeastern's Alina Mueller tapped in a rebound to put the Huskies on the board.
  • Junior goalie Madison Beck was tested early as the Huskies posted 16 shots on goal in the first period.
  • The Crusaders played a defensive first period as they found themselves in penalty trouble. They picked up four penalties in the first, but their penalty kill unit dissolved the Huskies' power play efforts. 
  • A Northeastern power play carried into the second period and they managed their second goal of the game in the first minute. 
  • Penalties continued to plague the Crusaders, as they picked up their fifth at 3:14 in the second period. Northeastern tallied their second power play goal at 4:03, increasing their lead to three.
  • The Crusaders managed nine shots on goal in the second period, but couldn't convert them into points. 
  • The Huskies added their final goal of the night at 15:09 in the third period. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Beck posted a career-high 47 saves, adding to her season total (596). She holds a 2.58 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.
  • The Crusaders tallied 14 blocked shots. Sophomore Carmen Elliott led the team with 3.
  • Senior Mary Edmonds led the Crusaders with 11 faceoff wins. 
UP NEXT: 
  • Holy Cross returns to Worcester for a two-game weekend with games on Feb. 3 and 5. The Crusaders will face the Maine Black Bears at 6 p.m. on Friday. The following day, they will face the New Hampshire Wildcats. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
