FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team tied Sacred Heart University, 2-2, in Atlantic Hockey Association action Friday night at Martire Family Arena.
Sacred Heart moves to 11-9-2 (10-4-2 AHA), while the Crusaders move to 7-13-3 (6-7-2 AHA).
THE GOALTENDERS:
- Crusaders: sophomore Thomas Gale – 1-7-2, 39 saves, .951 save percentage.
- Pioneers: Luke Lush – 9-8-2, 26 saves, .929 save percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Liam McLinskey got the Crusaders on the board first. At the 10:59 mark of the first, junior Matt Guerra forced a turnover in the offensive zone, finding McLinskey alone in front of the net, where he was able to send a wrist shot past Lush.
- In the second, a stretch pass by McLinskey found Guerra at the blue line, where he dropped the puck back for McLinskey. McLinskey unleashed a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circle and found the back of the net for the second time in the game.
- Shortly thereafter, Sacred Heart's Daniel Ebrahim was able to send a puck past Gale to cut the Crusaders' lead to 2-1.
- The Pioneers tied the game with 16:11 remaining in the third period on a strike by Julian Kislin.
- The two teams played even in the overtime frame.
- Sacred Heart took the shootout, 2-1. Junior Lucas Thorne scored the lone goal in the shootout for Holy Cross.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- The Crusaders held the Pioneers to 0-4 on the powerplay.
- Sacred Heart out-shot Holy Cross on the night, 41-28.
- Holy Cross held a slim lead in faceoffs, 50%-49%.
UP NEXT:
- The two teams will face off again tomorrow night, Saturday, Jan. 21.
- Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
