Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Eagles skate by Crusaders

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team was shut out by conference opponent Boston College, 3-0, on Saturday night. The Crusaders move to (4-19-1, 3-15-0 Hockey East) and while the Eagles improve to 14-8-1 overall and 12-6-0 in Hockey East standings. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Boston College took an early lead with the first shot of the game. Defenseman Deirdre Mullowney took a shot from the top of the offensive zone that hit junior goaltender Madison Beck and slipped into the net at 0:24 in the first.
  • The Eagles continued to skate strong, creating more opportunities on net. By the end of the first period, BC lead in shots on goal 14-6. 
  • Holy Cross earned a power play opportunity at 12:21 in the first period. They took two shots on goal, both turned away by BC goalie, Abigail Levy.
  • The Crusaders entered the second period with more speed and a stronger defensive front. 
  • Holy Cross created more opportunities on offense with longer possessions, but struggled to capitalize on their looks. The teams finished the second period with 10 shots on goal apiece. The score remained 1-0 heading into the third period.
  • The Eagles notched two more goals in the third period, securing the shutout victory. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Holy Cross penalty kill unit continues to prove strong in the second half of the season. In their last eight contests, the Crusaders have killed 15 of 17 power play attempts, including all four attempts by the Eagles on Saturday.
  • Beck posted 30 saves, adding to her season total (521). She owns a 2.59 goals-against average with a save percentage of .922 for the year.
  • The Crusaders' defense blocked 12 shots. Sophomore Emma Min lead the team with three.
  • Shots on goal fell in favor of the Eagles, 33-21. Boston College won the faceoff battle, 27-22. 
UP NEXT: 
  • Holy Cross will return to action on Jan. 20 and 21 as they begin a series of road games to close the month of January. The Crusaders will travel to Burlington, Vt. to face the Catamounts for a 6 p.m. slate. The following day, Holy Cross will head to North Andover to face Merrimack at 4 p.m.
