Women’s basketball goes for sixth straight win on Saturday against Lafayette

The Holy Cross women's basketball team is looking for their sixth straight victory as they play host to Patriot League opponent Lafayette Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Hart Center Arena. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (13-3, 5-0 PL): 
  • The Crusaders picked up their fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday evening coming back from a 13 point deficit to defeat Lehigh 66-64. Junior Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored a team-high 18 points with five rebounds and four blocked shots while freshman Kaitlyn Flanagan nearly had a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
  • Holy Cross has four multiple possession comeback victories this season. The Crusaders trailed by 13 points in third quarter against Lehigh (W, 66-64), 11 points to Connecticut College in the second quarter (W, 65-49), nine points to Stonehill (12/8) in the third quarter and seven points to Massachusetts-Lowell (12/11) in the first quarter. The 13 point comeback victory against Lehigh on Jan. 11 was the biggest come from behind win in the Maureen Magarity era.
  • This season, the Crusaders have two separate five game winning streaks which tie as the longest under Coach Magarity. The Crusaders took five straight contests from Nov. 27 to Dec. 11 (at Dartmouth, at Brown, at Northeastern, vs. Stonehill, at Massachusetts-Lowell) and from Dec. 30 to Jan. 11 (at Bucknell, vs. Navy, at American, at Loyola (Md.) and vs. Lehigh).
  • Simone Foreman and Janelle Allen were named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday afternoon. Foreman averaged 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals on 57.1% (8-of-14) shooting while Allen tallied 12.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 45.0% from the floor. At American on Thursday, Allen recorded her second career double-double scoring 16 points to go with a career-high matching 10 rebounds
  • Bronagh Power-Cassidy has had the three-point stroke working the last five games, she's converted 15-of-28 (53.6%) attempts. She is averaging 3.0 threes per contest in Patriot League games which leads the conference.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS (4-11, 1-4 PL): 
  • Lafayette put an end to their four game skid rolling to a 69-57 victory at home against Navy on Wednesday. Abby Antognoli scored a game-best 24 points with five steals and five three-pointers while teammate Jessica Booth notched 21 points on 11-of-14 (78.6%) free throws.
  • The Leopards are paced offensively by Makayla Andrews who leads the team with 12.5 points per game which is 11th in the Patriot League. Antognoli (10.7) and Booth (10.6) both average double figures as well for Lafayette.
  • Antognoli is currently the conference leader in steals per game (2.1). Booth ranks second in assists per game (4.0) and Kayla Drummond is eighth in rebounds per game (7.4).
  • Since 2014-15, Lafayette is 30-96 (.238) on the road.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 63-12 (.840) in the series history against Lafayette dating back to 1986.
  • The Crusaders have won the last six meetings including a 59-50 decision back on February 3, 2022. Cara McCormack scored 10 points in 27 minutes off the bench for Holy Cross.
  • The Crusaders are 31-4 (.886) against the Leopards in the Hart Center Arena.
