Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s soccer upended by Maine

ORONO, Maine – The Holy Cross women's soccer program was defeated 4-0 in their last nonconference match of the season to Maine Sunday afternoon.

The loss sends the Crusaders to 0-5-3 on the campaign while the Black Bears improve to 4-1-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders first chance during the sixth minute by junior Ellie Zern was wide off the mark.
  • Maine had two corners kick opportunities in the 10th and 11th minute. The Holy Cross defense cleared the ball out of the zone.
  • The Black Bears scored 1:12 into the second half as Birte Speck rifled a shot to the lower right corner of the net for the first goal of the game.
  • Speck then assisted on Tegan Morrison's tally in the 56th minute for the 2-0 lead.
  • Saylor Clark added two goals a minute apart to expand the lead to 4-0 late in the contest.
 
INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Both teams combined for only five shot attempts in the first half.
  • Holy Cross was outshot 12-1 in the second half.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dubin made five saves for the fourth time this season.
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross begins Patriot League play this coming weekend when they take on American Saturday at home with kick off slated for 2 p.m.
