WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to nonconference opponent Fairfield, 1-0, on Thursday, August 25 at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Olivia Dubin had five saves on the night.
The Crusaders move to 0-1-2 on the season, while the Stags improved to 2-0-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders battled closely with Fairfield through the first 45 minutes and remained scoreless going into the second half.
- Junior midfielder Allie Raynor had one of the better scoring opportunities of the evening when Stags netminder Katie Wright cleared the ball directly to Raynor, who fired the shot over the top of the net.
- Junior forward Samantha Adams generated plenty of offensive chances for the Crusaders with her first breakaway coming off of a deep clear to center field that was passed to her over the defenders, giving her plenty of space to rocket one on net that was ultimately corralled by Wright.
- The Stags broke the scoreless streak when Elle Scott managed to sneak one past Dubin with help from Reagan Klarmann in the 65th minute.
- The Crusaders fought back in the remainder of the second half with another breakaway from Adams, whose shot went wide due to pressure from Fairfield's defense.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- The Crusaders totaled a season-high nine shots on goal against the Stags.
