WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward
Gerrale Gates, a member of the Holy Cross men's basketball team, has been selected as the 2021-2022 recipient of the Richard J. Maloney Award. Since 1981, the Maloney Award has been presented annually by the Holy Cross Varsity Club to the men's basketball player who best exemplifies Mr. Maloney's spirit and energy as a loyal contributor to the program.
During the 2021-2022 campaign, Gates averaged 16.2 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while hitting 75.2 percent (92 of 125) of his free throws. A second team All-Patriot League selection, he finished the season ranked second in the conference in rebounding, fifth in scoring and sixth in free throw percentage. Gates posted 22 double-digit scoring games and 14 double-doubles on the year, while leading the team in scoring 16 times and rebounding 17 times.
During his first two years with the Crusaders, Gates has now totaled 684 points, 348 rebounds, 84 assists and 37 steals.
