Defensive lineman Benton Whitley of the Holy Cross football team signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on Saturday, April 30.
"This means everything to me," Whitley said. "Reaching this milestone is a representation of all of the work I've put in throughout my life as well as all of the people that have helped me along the way like my family, coaches and teammates. I really can't wait to get in there and compete to show them what I've got."
A three-time All-Patriot League first team honoree as a defensive end, Whitley also earned All-New England first team honors in 2021 and All-ECAC second team laurels in 2019. Throughout his Holy Cross career, Whitley totaled 111 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 16 sacks, helping lead the Crusaders to three consecutive Patriot League titles.
During Whitley's senior season, he recorded 49 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, six quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. He led a Holy Cross defense that ranked first in FCS in total defense, allowing just 254.5 yards per contest.

It was an honor for each of us to coach Benton and watch his growth through these past four years. His commitment and work ethic are exactly what will make him a success at the next level.
