WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell, 14-12, to Colgate on Friday, April 29 at Kuzniewski Field.
Senior attack Will Spangenberg wrapped up his collegiate career with four goals and two assists to lead the day for the Crusaders (1-13, 0-8 PL). Senior offensive lineman from the Holy Cross football team,
Jack McCauley, made his collegiate lacrosse debut in goal and posted 17 saves on the day.
Michael Minicus notched three goals to lead the Raiders (4-9, 3-5 PL) to victory. Goaltender Matt LaCombe made 10 saves in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both the Crusaders and the Raiders scored a single goal in the first period. With 3:43 left in the first, the Holy Cross goal came from junior midfielder T.J. Lynch with an assist from junior attack Dean DiNanno.
- In the second quarter, the Crusaders scored three consecutive goals to take the 4-2 lead before the Raiders went on a six-goal scoring streak spearheaded by Michael Minicus and his brother, Brian Minicus.
- With 9:39 left in the third quarter, DiNanno broke the scoring drought with an unassisted goal to bring the total to 8-5 in favor of Colgate.
- The Raiders went on another significant scoring run to bring their total to 14 with 2:46 remaining in the game.
- Lynch and Spangenberg were able to tack on two goals each in the last 1:49 of the game to bring the Crusaders' total to 12.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- The Crusaders held the slight edge in faceoffs, 15-14.
- McCauley was outstanding in net, falling one save short of this season's high in saves in a single game.
- Holy Cross succeeded in all 21 of their clear attempts.
