Crusaders defeated by Terriers Sunday

BOSTON – The Holy Cross softball team was defeated 7-0 by Patriot League opponent Boston University in Easter Sunday action at the BU Softball Field.

The Terriers (30-13, 9-0 PL) won their 19th straight game with the win and remain undefeated in conference play. Holy Cross (13-26, 3-9 PL) will look the end their six game conference losing streak next weekend at home.
 
IN THE CIRCLE:
  • Allison Boaz: W (17-4), complete game, shutout, three strikeouts, three hits allowed, one walk allowed.
  • Senior Kelly Nelson: L (9-14), 3.0 innings, six hits allowed, two earned runs, three strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Caitlin Coker: 2-for-3, home run, two RBI, stolen base, two runs scored, walk.
  • Lauren Keleher: 2-for-4, two RBI, run scored.
  • Kayla Roncin: 2-for-4, double, RBI, two runs scored.
  • Sophomore Jessica Mott: 1-for-3.
  • Senior Erin Bengston: 1-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the bottom of the third, in a 2-1 count, Coker lined a solo homer over the right field fence for the early 1-0 edge. BU continued to tack on runs as Keleher smoked a single up the middle into centerfield scoring another run making it a 2-0 contest.
  • Coker added an insurance run in the fourth smacking an RBI single to second base which improved the score to 2-0.
  • Bella Gargicevich-Almedia lofted a sacrifice fly in the home half of the fifth to increase the margin to 4-0.
  • The Crusaders threatened in the top of the sixth as sophomore Morgan Jensen started off the inning with a pinch hit single to center. A few batters later, Bengston singled to put runners at the corners with two away. Sophomore Megan Yurchick was retired on the first pitch to end the scoring chance.
  • BU tacked on three in the sixth to hold a 7-0 advantage.
DUE UP:
  • Holy Cross remains away from campus on Wednesday when they travel to Rhode Island for a 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
