ERIE, Pa. — The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team lost to Mercyhurst in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey Playoffs, falling 2-1 in overtime on Friday, March 4 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Sophomore center
Matt Guerra scored the lone goal of the evening for the Crusaders (12-22-2, 10-15-2 AHA). Holy Cross goaltender
Matt Radomsky made 13 saves on the day.
Paul Maust led the day for the Lakers (13-18-4, 11-12-4 AHA) with the game-winning goal in overtime. Goaltender Kevin McClellan made 32 saves in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Guerra gained the 1-0 lead for the Crusaders with a goal coming at 14:24 of the first period with assists from sophomore right wing Alec Cicero and freshman left wing John Gelatt.
- After a scoreless second period, Carson Briere found the back of the net during a Mercyhurst power play at 3:45 of the third period.
- At 3:45 of overtime, Maust scored the golden goal for the Lakers to secure the victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The Crusaders outshot their opponents yet again. In this contest, the Crusaders doubled the Lakers in shots on goal, 33-15.
- Holy Cross also led the day in faceoffs, 38-27.

- Both teams will return for a rematch on Saturday, March 5 at 7:05 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
