Men's basketball set for Senior Day showdown with Army

The Holy Cross men's basketball team will play its final regular season game of the year when it faces Army West Point at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26. Prior to tip-off, members of the Crusaders' senior class will be honored in a special pregame ceremony. The contest between Holy Cross and Army will be shown live by the Patriot League on ESPN+.

The Crusaders stand 9-20 overall this year with a 7-10 mark in the Patriot League. Holy Cross is currently tied for seventh place in the conference and can be seeded anywhere from fifth through eighth in the Patriot League Tournament. With a win over Army, the Crusaders would earn the No. 5 or No. 6 seed and a bye into the quarterfinals. With a loss against the Black Knights, Holy Cross would finish as the No. 7 or No. 8 seed and play a home game in the first round.

Senior forward Gerrale Gates has led the team by averaging 16.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while hitting 72.4 percent of his foul shots. Freshman guard Kyrell Luc has also been playing well, with averages of 13.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. In addition, sophomore guard Bo Montgomery has averaged 8.8 points and 2.8 boards per game.

Army owns an overall record of 14-15 on the season with an 8-9 mark in Patriot League play. The Black Knights can lock up the No. 5 seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a win, and would fall to the No. 7 or No. 8 seed with a loss.

Sophomore guard Jalen Rucker has led Army by averaging 16.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, while hitting 37.7 percent of his shots from three-point range. In addition, senior guard Josh Caldwell has put up 12.1 points, 5.1 boards, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per contest.

After the contest with Army, Holy Cross will open play in the Patriot League Tournament on either March 1 or March 3.
